ALEX
FLINN studied vocal performance at the University of Miami
and went on to become a lawyer. While in law school, she interned
with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, trying several domestic
violence cases. It was this experience that led her to write BREATHING
UNDERWATER, her first novel. Alex lives with her family in Miami.
BREATHING UNDERWATER is a young adult
novel that finds wealthy, popular Nick embarking on
a harrowing journey of self-discovery --- and learning
that he may have inherited more than green eyes and
money from his violent father.

THE BASIC EIGHT

up to something, right?)
THE BONESETTER'S DAUGHTER
by Amy
Tan
Perhaps because my own parents were World War
II era immigrants, I especially enjoy Tan's books, which always deal
with American children learning of their mothers' exotic and often
tragic lives abroad.
AMANDA/MIRANDA

This is a story of mistaken identity, love, lies, and death on the
Titanic, recently rewritten as a young-adult novel and now available
in paperback.
GOOSE CHASE

This is a modern fairy tale about a goose girl coveted for her tears,
which turn to diamonds.
