Tina St. John's Summer Reading List

FORTUNE'S ROCKS
by Anita Shreve
Set in an affluent area of coastal Maine where my husband and I spent a summer a few years ago, I could not resist picking up this 19th century-set novel about a sheltered young woman and the visiting doctor with whom she falls in love. A torrid love affair, an historical setting just minutes from my own backyard, and Anita Shreve's name on the cover guaranteed this book would end up in the beach bag.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET
by Anita Shreve
I first discovered Anita Shreve with THE WEIGHT OF WATER, her haunting novel about (among other things) a double murder that took place in 1800s New Hampshire. This new book is a sequel of sorts, involving the husband of WATER's protagonist and a woman he has loved for many years. Not my usual fare, but I am interested to see what happens to Thomas Janes in this new book.

BEACHCOMBING FOR A SHIPWRECKED GOD
by Joe Coomer
I found this book at a small bookstore in New Hampshire's White Mountains, and could not resist the local setting. Three women --- a new widow, an old widow, and a troubled teenage girl --- come together aboard a wooden yacht in a Portsmouth, New Hampshire, harbor. Very much a study in character and relationships, I expect I'll be buying this book for all my friends come Christmas. (Maybe even sooner!)

BIG STONE GAP
by Adriana Trigiani
Who can resist a book about the town whose claim to fame is being the place where actress Elizabeth Taylor once choked on a chicken bone? BIG STONE GAP has a quirky, small-town feel to it that always appeals to the quirky, small-town girl in me. I may save this one for a rainy day when I have nothing else to do but read and enjoy.

DANCE UPON THE AIR
by Nora Roberts
Roberts' latest promises to be one of her best yet! Modern-day witches, steamy romance, and a quaint New England setting --- the perfect combination for summertime reading. This new trilogy is bound to be another big hit for Nora Roberts!

ONCE TEMPTED
by Elizabeth Boyle
Always engaging and unerringly romantic, Elizabeth Boyle is one of my favorite historical romance authors. This new book pairs a scandalized young woman with the rogue who ruined her reputation seven years ago . . . or is he? I know I'm in for a captivating read with ONCE TEMPTED!
