Amy Berkower
Bio
In 1972, after graduating from the University of California at Santa Cruz with honors
in English Literature, Ms. Berkower took her first job in publishing as a "gal"
Friday with Writers House, a two-person literary agency in New York. Just a few years
later, she was promoted to agent and started the children's book department which is now
one of the largest in the world, consisting of five agents who together represent over 200
clients. Ms. Berkower's children's list includes such best-selling authors as Francine
Pascal, Ann Martin, Paula Danziger, Joan Lowery Nixon, James Howe, Barbara Park, Andrew
Clements, Sharon Creech, Laurie Anderson and Dav Pilkey. In 1987, she was made a full
partner. Her list has expanded to include adult authors like Nora Roberts and Barbara
Delinsky, whose books have become perennial New York Times bestsellers.
