Curtis Brown, Ltd.

In 1914, Mr. Curtis Brown opened a New York office of his London literary agency, Curtis Brown, Ltd., in order to sell his British authors' work in the U.S. As the years passed, the New York office added American authors whose work they sold here. Today the New York office and its branch in San Francisco are independent of the original London office. We represent a wide cross-section of established and emerging writers who writes in all genres, from children's books to literary fiction and nonfiction to mystery and romance. Current clients include Karen Armstrong, Louis Auchincloss, Debra Fraiser, S. E. Hinton, Laurence Yep, David Lodge, Henry Alford, Rosamunde Pilcher, Tony Hillerman, Patricia MacLachlan, Betty Friedan, Harold Kushner, Alvin Toffler, John Nichols and Po Bronson. Among the literary luminaries of Curtis Brown's long, illustrious history are: D. H. Lawrence, A. A. Milne, Ogden Nash, Robertson Davies, Ayn Rand and W. H. Auden.

There are currently twelve agents in the organization whose lists reflect a wide range of interests and more than 200 years of collective experience in publishing. There are also separate departments for film, television and foreign rights. The publishing and entertainment worlds are peppered with agents, editors and producers who began their careers at Curtis Brown, some as assistants and interns.
