6. AOTW: In Stephen King's On Writing, he prescribed two things, which every aspiring writer must do: 1) read a lot and 2) write a lot. Do you agree with him? And if so, how do you balance reading and writing?

Tony Perrottet: Sure, I do agree --- especially the writing part, since the more you write the easier it is to relax into your "voice." I read much more when I'm not writing something --- when I'm traveling, especially. When I'm writing, I read more fiction than nonfiction, usually at night --- and certainly no travel writing. Avoiding anything too similar gives my mind a break, I guess, and I don't run the risk of being over-influenced.

Maria Rosa Menocal: Yes, absolutely. And reading a lot, at this stage in life, is actually harder than writing a lot.

Emma Sweeney: Yes, I do. I read a lot. I read much more than I write.

Mona Golabek: I read a great deal for my radio show. As for balance, I truly view this book in a different way from most authors...and feel privileged to have had the chance to publish my mother's story...to share her incredible courage with others.
