Homer Hickam's memoir Rocket Boys was translated into 8 languages, made into a
film (October Sky) and spent many weeks on The New York Times bestseller
list. The story continued in a second book, The Coalwood Way, which captured more
of the spirit of Coalwood, West Virginia.

- Paco, Homer's black and white cat, made history by being the first cat in space! Actually, Paco had his meows transmitted into Spacelab J.
- The movie title October Sky is an anagram of the book's title Rocket Boys.
- Homer currently is in the planning stages of making Rocket Boys into a play.
- Homer was almost killed pulling a cast iron pipe out from underneath railroad tracks. He wanted to use it for rocket supplies.

Homer Hickam is the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller October Sky as well as the acclaimed follow-up to October Sky, The Coalwood Way. He is also the author of Back to the Moon and Torpedo Junction, as well as numerous articles for such publications as Smithsonian Air and Space and American History Illustrated. He lives with his wife in Huntsville, Alabama — Rocket City, USA.
