Kevin J. Anderson's Summer Reading List
Royal Assassin
by Robin Hobb
I got hooked on Robin Hobb's "Liveship Traders" series, so now I am going back to read her backlist. It's very visceral fantasy that puts other "standard quest adventures" to shame.
The Naked God
by Peter F. Hamilton
Hamilton writes gigantic canvas science fiction epics...the kind few people can pull off. The scope of his series is huge, and I have enjoyed every installment so far. This time I also have The Confederation Handbook, a reference work on the series, so I can more easily keep track of all the politics, characters, and planets.
H.G. Wells: Aspects of Life
by Anthony West
An old biography of H.G. Wells written by his son. Wells has always been a huge influence on my own writing, and he will be a main character in a novel I'm currently writing...so, this is research but the fun kind.
The Dark Knight Strikes Again
by Frank Miller
What can I say? Frank Miller is the best. With current standards in printing, coloring, and art, graphic novels are an outstanding art form and I love caressing the pages and reading them slowly. I also plan to read The League of Extraordinatry Gentlemen by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill (Captain Nemo, Alan Quartermain, the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll...sounds like a blast).
Shadow of the Hegemon
by Orson Scott Card
The latest novel in Card's extraordinary Ender's Game series. Since it's summertime, I spend a lot of time driving off into the mountains and hiking (I write my own fiction with a hand-held tape recorder as I'm tromping through the woods). I have this book unabridged on audiotape and I am listening to it every time I head for the hills.
