Romance Author Roundtable
One Night of Scandal
Proper decorum has never come easily to Carlotta Anne Fairleigh -- not even tonight, when the lovely, impetuous miss is finally making her debut. As she waits to make her entrance, she can't help wondering about the darkened house next door, the supposedly abandoned home of Hayden St. Clair, the man society has dubbed the "Murderous Marquess." Certainly one small peek through his window before the festivities would be harmless ...And, naturally, this latest "adventure" ends in disaster, thoroughly compromising the budding debutante's reputation and leaving her suddenly, unthinkably ... betrothed! Soon she's en route to the wilds of Cornwall in the company of the handsome, mysterious marquess whose name the ton whisper with fear and loathing.Yet there is something thrilling -- and surprisingly tender -- about her dark, unreachable groom, and the desire in his eyes is undeniable. But before Lottie will surrender to the yearnings in her heart, she must unlock the secrets of Hayden's past, no matter how scandalous -- or perilous -- they may be.
Teresa Medeiros's Summer Reading List
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
by J.K. Rowling
This one's sort of a no-brainer for every kid in the world, including me.I love Rowling. I've yet to see an author better capture the whimsy of Roald Dahl, yet couple it with such a compelling hero's journey. I really think these books will end up being the "Lord of the Rings" for the next generation.
Between Sisters
by Kristin Hannah
I'm headed to the beach next week and this will be the book that goes with me. I'm an only child so I find family dynamics quite fascinating and nobody does those dynamics better than Hannah. She'll make me laugh. She'll make me cry. But most important, she'll make me feel.
Daughter of the Game
by Tracy Grant
How can I resist a big historical thriller about a child's abduction set in Victorian England? This one has generated a lot of buzz on the internet. I can almost feel the fog on the back of my neck. Or is that the villain's breath?
Thorn In My Heart
by Liz Curtis Higgs
This is another meaty historical I've been dying to read. It's the Biblical story of
Jacob, Rachel and Leah, but recast in 18th century Scotland. I've been delighted by Higgs' non-fiction and contemporaries so I can't wait to see what she did with this delicious setting and time period.
The Secret Garden
by Frances Hodgson Burnett
I try to re-read this beloved children's classic every spring or summer. (I
re-read A Little Princess by the same author every winter.) I never tire of it's theme of an abandoned garden bringing redemption and renewal to three lonely children. And I'm very picky! It has to be the hardcover edition illustrated by Tasha Tudor.
