Julia Quinn's Summer Reading List

One Night Of Scandal
by Teresa Medeiros
I was fortunate enough to read an advanced copy of this one, and I'm happy to say that Medeiros has another winner. The characters are full and well-realized, the love story grand and touching, and the writing deft and crisp. All with a dash of gothicism reminiscent of Victoria Holt.

Fool for Love
by Eloisa James
I haven't read this one yet, but I'm counting the days until its release. Eloisa James has a style and voice all her own, and I devour her historical romances like chocolate.

Flowers from the Storm
by Laura Kinsale
Without a doubt, one of the most brilliant and beautiful historical romances ever written. And recently re-released without Fabio on the cover.

Breathing Room
by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
If you're looking for contemporary romance, you can't do better than Susan Elizabeth Phillips, who never fails to awe me with her skill. She starts every time with a clever hook and premise, but then takes it one step further with who are multi-faceted and achingly real. Put it all together, and you get an author who delivers every time.

The Last Days of Summer
by Steve Kluger
This (mostly) epistolary novel set in early 1940s Brooklyn is both charming and heartbreaking, and I've given at least a dozen copies as gifts. It's a terrific read any day of summer.

The Last Nazi
by Stan Pottinger
A riveting thriller which pits one woman against a deadly biological virus born of the genetic projects started in the Nazi labs. Edge-of-your-seat suspense, and written by my father-in-law!

Children of the Storm
by Elizabeth Peters
I am not a big reader of mysteries, but I am absolutely addicted to Amelia Peabody and the entire Emerson clan. While the plots of this series are terrific, it's really the voice and narration that draws me in. If you're a new Amelia Peabody fan, be sure to start at the beginning, with Crocodile on the Sandbank. If you're a longtime reader, watch out for Amelia Peabody's Egypt, a new compendium due out this fall.

To the Nines
by Janet Evanovich
The only other mystery series I follow religiously. If you can read any of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books without laughing until your sides ache, you're probably dead.
