July 2002

Dear Reader:

Don't you always wonder what authors are reading? We do too. Which is why we are so pleased to share the Summer Reading Lists of over 100 authors with you this month! This was one of our most popular features last year, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did putting it together. Stay tuned for trivia contests based on these lists beginning on July 8th where you'll have a chance to win some GREAT books!

Earlier this summer we were pleased to learn that one of our websites, ReadingGroupGuides.com, was noted as one of Forbes Best Sites on the Web. What did they like best? That it links to AuthorsOnTheWeb. Click here to read the Forbes review of our site.

One way to make the most of your visit to AuthorsOnTheWeb is to use our new menu buttons on the left-hand side of the home page. These buttons will take you to the feature of your choice, whether it is Author Roundtables, Author Bibliographies, or the News & Features section. This month we also add a search button what will make looking for information about your favorite authors a lot easier.

We love to read stories about authors mentoring new talent. Here is one that came across our desks recently. Rolex, the Swiss watchmaker, recently inaugurated a new philanthropic program: the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative. This unique program gives five gifted young artists the opportunity to collaborate with contemporary masters. The disciplines covered are dance, literature, music, theater arts and visual arts. The mentors involved in this initiative are chosen for their artistic genius and their ability to nurture young talent. For the first cycle, the literary mentor is Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison. Her protégée is young Australian writer Julia Leigh, whose first novel has won accolades on three continents. Mentors will spend at least 30 days with their protégés during the 12-month program. Click here to read more about this program.

July Author of Month: Catherine Coulter
As one of America's most prolific Romance writers, Catherine Coulter has written about several historical periods in her vastly popular, character-linked series books. Each year she promises --- and delivers --- to her die-hard fans continuations of at least two of their favorite series, and in recent years she has begun to tackle the contemporary thriller/romance genre.

Her newest book, Eleventh Hour, is the seventh installment in her FBI suspense series, but she plans to continue historical period romances as well. From Vikings to Victorians, Catherine has a novel for every interest.

And in case you missed it....our June Author of Month: Janet Evanovich
Janet Evanovich burst onto the mystery scene in 1994 with One for the Money and introduced readers to one of the most unconventional characters in fiction: Stephanie Plum. The lingerie buyer-turned-bounty hunter has delighted thousands of fans. The first book was a New York Times Notable Book and subsequent titles were bestsellers.

To celebrate the publication of Hard Eight, AuthorsOnTheWeb honors Janet Evanovich as Author of the Month with "fast facts" about her career and personal life, trivia questions, and more. If you have not been introduced to Evanovich's sassy character we hope you'll pick up One for the Money, Two for the Dough, Three to Get Deadly, Four to Score, High Five, Hot Six, and Seven Up --- and start reading!

Author Summer Reading Lists
Ever wondered what authors are reading this summer? We asked and over 100 authors responded telling us 5 titles on their summer reading lists. See what your favorite authors are reading, and then browse the lists of a few authors you have never heard of. After all, they are readers --- just like you --- and you may find a new favorite from their suggestions.

Beginning the week of July 8th, we will be running trivia games based on these lists, so be sure to check back. The prizes --- books!
